Tree Pruning

Tree Trimming Map for 2026
Work will include most streets within this area

The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) prunes trees and shrubs throughout Ada County on a systematic seven-year cycle to meet roadway clearance requirements for upcoming maintenance activities. This work typically occurs in winter through spring.

Why Prune?

  • Properly maintained trees and shrubs ensure safe travel for everyone: drivers, walkers, cyclists, and those using wheelchairs or other mobility devices.
  • They also allow maintenance equipment, emergency vehicles, and other essential services to access your street when needed.

Pruning Responsibilities

  • The adjacent property owner is responsible for maintaining proper clearance of their trees and shrubs in the Right-of-Way. See pruning requirements below.
  • The Power Company is responsible for clearing vegetation obstructing power lines.
  • ACHD will prune any vegetation within the public Right-of-Way not properly maintained by an adjacent property owner.
    • ACHD will only prune for roadway safety and clearance, not aesthetics.

Property Owner Pruning

  • Must be complete by January 15, 2026.
  • Property owners are encouraged to prune their trees and shrubs themselves or hire a professional.
  • You may need to verify with your City if you need a permit to prune trees in the public Right-of-Way.

ACHD Pruning

  • ACHD will only prune for roadway safety and clearance, not aesthetics.
  • ACHD will complete the pruning between January 15, 2026, and June 30, 2026.
  • There is no cost to property owners.
