ACHD receiving award for Kootenai StudyThe Ada County Highway District was recently honored with two Leadership in Motion Awards from COMPASS. These awards are presented every year to individuals, businesses and projects that have demonstrated leadership in supporting the goals of the Treasure Valley's long-range transportation plan, Communities in Motion.

On Monday, December 16th, COMPASS presented ACHD with the Leadership in Government, Ada County award and the Leadership in Practice, Professional award. The Kootenai Street Traffic Calming Concept Study is being recognized with the Leadership in Government Award. ACHD teamed with HDR to develop this concept that is meant to improve connectivity for all users, especially pedestrians and bicyclists, and enhance safety by calming traffic and separating these users from vehicles. ACHD and HDR did extensive public outreach and worked closely with neighborhood residents. "It was an honor to work with the neighbors and community stakeholders to find compromise that enhances the safety of the neighborhood while maintaining the historical nature of this quaint street," said Brooke Green, the Senior Transportation Planner for this study. The Kootenai Street Traffic Calming Concept Study has won a total of three awards.

COMPASS also presented ACHD Director Bruce Wong with the Leadership in Practice, Professional award. This award honors individuals who have shown exceptional leadership and commitment to furthering the Treasure Valley's long-range transportation plan.

Director Wong receiving award"I am humbled to have been asked to stand with the fellow award winners for this very prestigious recognition," the Director said. "This is not about me, but is truly a reflection of the tremendous professionals that make up the Ada County Highway District and their commitment to excellence in all that we do for so many."

Director Wong has been in his role with ACHD since February of 2011. He oversees the day-to-day operation and management of the ACHD workforce.
