Thanks to the public's help, maintenance crews at the Ada County Highway District are keeping up with potholes this Spring.

ACHD crews filled 369 potholes from April 4 to April 8, during ACHD's annual Pothole Days. The campaign encourages residents to report potholes as they see them.

"ACHD maintains more than 5,200 lane-miles of roadway, so we rely heavily on the public to help us spot potholes," said Jennifer Berenger, Deputy Director of Maintenance at ACHD. "We appreciate all those who send in reports so our crews can fill the potholes as quickly as possible."

Potholes are common following the winter months. Water seeps into the asphalt, and in cold weather, the water freezes and expands. When the ice melts, the weakened pavement begins to break up under the weight of passing vehicles, creating potholes. While Pothole Days is an annual week-long campaign, residents can report a pothole to ACHD at any time using the TellUs form or by calling (208) 387-6100.

Reports should list the location of the pothole, including nearby cross-streets or landmarks. Residents can also add a photo if it is safe to do so.

ACHD aims to respond to potholes within one business day of them being reported.
