The Ada County Highway District Commission received pavement condition assessment result from Margot Yapp of NCE Engineering and Environmental Services. The Nevada firm is hired by the agency every three years to assess the condition of arterial, collector, and residential roadways within the county.

The assessment indicated that Ada County roads are the best in Idaho and remain among the best in the Northwest. The PCI (Pavement Condition Index) rating was 81, placing the condition of our roads above those of comparable cities in the region. The rating scale is from 1 to 100, with 1 being a gravel road, and 100 being the first day a road is freshly poured with asphalt. Less than one percent of the evaluated roadways were categorized in the Poor of Failed categories.

The numbers indicate ACHD's aggressive preventative maintenance program have successfully maintained PCI ratings in the low to mid 80's over the last twenty years.

"We are very proud of these results," said ACHD Commission President Mary May. "They absolutely speak to the effectiveness of investing our attention and finances into the care and upkeep of our over $3 billion in pavement assets. As explosive growth persists, that effort will continue to be more important than ever."

ACHD currently maintains 5,177 lane miles of roadway, enough to drive from here to Washington, D.C. and back again.
