ACHD has long prioritized responsible budgeting and the efficient use of taxpayer dollars. As Ada County continues to grow, we’ve worked to keep pace by planning, building, and maintaining a transportation system that meets the needs of our community - while remaining thoughtful and fiscally responsible in how we deliver those services. However, rising costs are placing increasing pressure on the resources that support our core operations, including maintaining safe and reliable roads for the public.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
In 1990, Ada County voters approved a vehicle registration fee to fund transportation improvements throughout the county. In 2008, Ada County voters renewed the vehicle registration fee. The fee has not increased since that time. Since 1990, revenue from the fee has supported road and bridge repair, congestion relief, and safe routes to school for Ada County residents.
The current vehicle registration fee is authorized through December 31, 2028. This measure would reauthorize the existing fee through December 31, 2046 at its current rates, with no increase. Revenue generated by the fee would continue to be used for transportation improvements within the jurisdiction of the Ada County Highway District.
WHAT THIS MEASURE DOES
This measure continues the existing vehicle registration fee at its current rates, set in 2008. No fee amount is increased. The approximately $14 million generated annually will be used for construction and maintenance projects under the jurisdiction of the Ada County Highway District, including road and bridge repair, traffic congestion relief, and safe routes to school.
CURRENT FEES:
For each automobile, pickup truck, or motor vehicle with a maximum gross weight not exceeding 8,000 pounds, designed to carry passengers and not for hire:
• Vehicles over seven years old: $24
• Vehicles between three and seven years old: $36
• Vehicles one to two years old: $40
• Motor vehicles primarily used for hire and each school bus: $16.00
• Motorcycles and terrain vehicles: $8.00
YES (APPROVE) Extend fee to 2046 with no increase.
NO (DISAPPROVE) Let fee expire in 2028.

Vehicle Registration Fees play a significant role in keeping Ada County moving. They provide ACHD with a reliable, locally controlled funding source that goes directly back into our community - supporting transportation projects that reduce congestion, improve safety, and enhance quality of life.
These funds help deliver meaningful, neighborhood-level improvements, from safer intersections and smoother roadways to better access for people walking, biking, and rolling to road and bridge repairs. They also support critical investments in Safe Routes to School, helping students and families travel to and from school more safely.
