ACHD Celebrates Completion of Downtown Eagle Mobility Improvements Project

Post Date:11/13/2025 1:00 AM

EAGLE — The Ada County Highway District’s Downtown Eagle Mobility Improvements Project is now substantially complete, marking a major milestone for the Ada County Highway District and the City of Eagle.

ACHD and the City of Eagle celebrated the completion of the project Thursday afternoon with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held in the heart of Eagle’s downtown. City leadership, business owners, and community members joined ACHD to mark the conclusion of the multi-year effort to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and create a more welcoming environment in downtown Eagle.

“This project has been in the works for more than a decade,” said Miranda Gold, ACHD Commission President. “Over the years, it has evolved through many iterations, shaped by the shared vision of ACHD, the City of Eagle, and the people who call Eagle home.”

The Downtown Eagle Mobility Improvements Project focused on Eagle Road, State Street, and the surrounding roadway network, including Olde Park Place, Plaza Drive, and Aikens Street. Work was completed in two phases in an effort to minimize impacts on nearby businesses and residents while maintaining access to the downtown core.

The first phase of work began in January 2024, and included widening and improving Eagle Road between State Highway 44 and the canal, upgrading the Eagle Road and Plaza Drive intersection, enhancing Plaza Drive between Eagle Road and 2nd Street, and installing a new traffic signal at State Street and 2nd Street. The second phase kicked off in January 2025, continuing those efforts with improvements to Aikens Street, Olde Park Place, and State Street, as well as major updates to the Eagle Road and State Street intersection and traffic signal.

Throughout the project, ACHD coordinated closely with Veolia, Idaho Power, Intermountain Gas, and other partners to complete utility improvements in tandem with roadway construction, meeting the District’s long-standing dig-once goal.

“Our contractor and ACHD teams worked through each challenge with the project, always with the goal of minimizing impacts on businesses and residents,” said Ryan Head, ACHD Director. “In the end, our priority remained the same: enhancing safety and accessibility for everyone who uses this transportation network. This space will serve the community well into the future.”

ACHD officials expressed appreciation for the patience and partnership of downtown businesses, commuters, and residents who navigated construction.

“We know this work wasn’t without its impacts, especially for the businesses downtown, and we appreciate their patience throughout construction,” added President Gold. “We’re excited for residents, business owners, and visitors to enjoy this improved space for years to come.”

The completed improvements create a safer, more efficient, and more walkable downtown, supporting local commerce and preparing Eagle for continued growth. The new roadway network enhances access for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists, and strengthens connections to nearby neighborhoods, schools, and community destinations.
