Pedestrian Access Closed on East Side of Park Center Bridge Due to Damaged Railing

Post Date:08/08/2025

BOISE —The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) has closed pedestrian access on the east side of the Parkcenter Bridge due to a damaged railing that poses a serious safety risk.

On Thursday, ACHD crews responded to an initial report of a damaged railing on the east side of the bridge. Temporary repairs were made, but later that evening, crews were called back after the damage worsened.

Two railing panels were affected. One has been temporarily re-secured, while the second panel fell into the Boise River. That panel will be retrieved this fall with assistance from the Boise Fire Department, when river conditions are safer. A full replacement of both panels will be required.

Due to the missing and damaged railing, an unprotected drop-off to the river has been created. To ensure public safety, ACHD has installed multiple barricades and closed all pedestrian access on the east side of the bridge. This closure was implemented during overnight emergency work and will remain in place until repairs are completed.

Initial evidence suggests the railing may have been deliberately removed to allow individuals to jump into the river. Boise Police are actively investigating the incident and working to identify those responsible. Criminal charges may be filed.

“We want to stress to the public that the barriers in place are there for your safety,” said ACHD Chief of Communications, Shandy Lam, “No one should attempt to move or bypass these barricades under any circumstances.”

ACHD is currently working to procure new railing panels. A timeline for repairs and reopening will be announced once more information is available.

During the closure, pedestrians and cyclists should use alternate routes, including the west side of the Parkcenter Bridge and other nearby crossings.

ACHD will continue to coordinate with partner agencies and provide updates as the investigation and repairs move forward.
