State Street Lighting Improvements, 16th Street to 23rd Street

Construction Update as of 01/10/2020: This project is substantially complete.

Starting late fall/early winter the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) will begin work on the State Street Lighting Improvements Project. The federal aid safety project includes installing 14 street lights to improve nighttime visibility and safety on State Street between 16th and 23rd streets.  In anticipation of the project, utility and prep work will begin as early as next week.

The utility/prep work will be done during the day and there will be lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. as necessary. Once construction begins, impacts could also include general construction noise, dust, equipment backup alarms and ground vibration. All work is expected to be complete by the end of 2019, weather permitting.

The State Street, 16th Street to 23rd Street Lighting Improvements Project is a federal aid safety project to install continuous street lighting to improve nighttime visibility and safety on State Street.

As a means to minimize brightness and reduce glare:

  • The lights will utilize a LED fixture that has "softer" light color.
  • All fixtures will be fitted with a backside house shield to direct the light to the street and reduce the amount of light projected towards the adjacent properties.

Fourteen locations have been chosen for the lights.

Construction is planned to start in the summer of 2019.
